BasQ Community Gathering: A Success Celebrating the BasQ Ecosystem

October 14, 2025

On October 14, following the inauguration of the IBM Quantum System Two, the BasQ Community Gathering took place in the afternoon — and it was an undeniable success.

The event brought together researchers, industry leaders, and partners from across the BasQ ecosystem to celebrate two years of collective progress in quantum computing and innovation. It served as a moment to recognize the dedication and collaboration that have shaped BasQ into a vibrant community at the forefront of quantum technology.

The program began with an engaging interview between Adolfo Morais and Jay Gambetta, offering an inspiring look at the present and future of quantum computing and the pivotal role that BasQ plays within this global landscape.

Following the interview, the event featured several testimonies from members of the BasQ community, reflecting the diversity and strength of the ecosystem. Among the speakers were, Amaia Esquisabel, Research Director of the Basque Government, Unai Aseguinolaza, a BasQ Advocate; representatives from companies across the three historical territories; and contributors from Ikerbasque and Euskampus. Of course, several IBM team members who have been instrumental in the creation and growth of the ecosystem also shared their experiences and insights.

The afternoon was filled with gratitude, enthusiasm, and a shared sense of accomplishment. As the BasQ community looks ahead, the success of the Gathering stands as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through collaboration, innovation, and a collective commitment to advancing quantum science in the Basque Country and beyond.

The event finished with words of Councillor Juan Ignacio Pérez Iglesias.
