Open days at the Quantum Computer facilities in the Ikerbasque building, Donostia

October 23, 2026

To mark Science Week, the public will be able to visit the Ikerbasque building and learn about the features of the technological infrastructure. Places are limited. The visit will include (part of) the “Quantum Visions” exhibition, an introduction to quantum technology, previously created and shown by Tabakalera. Those interested must submit their application on the website www.basquequantum.eus

Donostia, 23 October 2026. To mark “Science Week”, and just days after its first anniversary, the facilities housing IBM’s System II quantum computer will open their doors to the public.

The Ikerbasque building is home to the headquarters of BasQ (Basque Quantum), a strategy led by the Basque Government with the involvement of the three Provincial Councils. Its facilities house the IBM System II computer, IBM’s most powerful quantum computer in the world, together with the one installed at RIKEN in Japan.

The open days will give the public the chance to learn about its main features and to approach a complex technology in a more understandable way.

Guided tour and Quantum Visions exhibition

During the tour of the building, visitors will receive general information about the computer’s main features, its infrastructure, its use and possible applications. The tour will include brief historical notes on the evolution of quantum science, as well as an overhead view of the computer’s core.

To help visitors better understand its main features, Tabakalera and Ikerbasque have agreed to show the educational installation “Quantum Visions” during the tour. The project, launched in 2025 by the international centre for contemporary culture, allows visitors to explore key concepts of quantum physics through educational, audiovisual and narrative content.

Those interested in attending the open days can submit their application at https://www.basquequantum.eus/es/visita-guiada-al-ordenador-cuantico. Places are limited.
