U.S. Senator Ruben Mariñelarena visits the Basque Country and the Quantum Computer IBM Quantum System Two
May 27, 2026U.S. Senator Ruben Mariñelarena Gallego of Arizona and his team visited the IBM-Euskadi Quantum Computational Center at the Ikerbasque building in San Sebastián.
He was received by Adolfo Morais, Deputy Minister of Science and Innovation, accompanied by Amaia Esquisabel, Director of Science Policy, and Maialen Agirre, Director of Innovation.
Both the senator and his team had the opportunity to learn about the features of the IBM System II quantum computer, which was unveiled last October. Additionally, during the meeting, Basque Government officials outlined the key aspects of the Basque Country’s science policy, highlighting the drive to foster a scientific ecosystem that promotes increasingly specialized programs in areas where the Basque Country is a global leader: a strategy that gave rise to the commitment to Basque Quantum.
