BasQ, a key player at Q-Expo, the leading European conference in the quantum technology industry
May 19, 2026BasQ has strengthened its international profile at Q-Expo 2026 through institutional representation, prominent industry participation, and a strategic visit to the Donostia-San Sebastián Quantum Mile.
BasQ participated in the third edition of Q-Expo 2026, Europe’s leading event dedicated to the quantum technology industry, organized by the European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC). The event took place in Bilbao on May 18 and 19 and brought together companies, technology centers, institutions, and international experts linked to the European quantum industry ecosystem.
Q-Expo is driven by the European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC), the leading European association in the quantum sector, comprising companies, startups, technology centers, and research organizations that work in coordination to strengthen European competitiveness in a field considered strategic for the continent’s industrial and technological future.
BasQ’s Participation
BasQ’s participation during the two days the event was held at the Euskalduna Palace took the form of various institutional and business initiatives. Among these, the participation of Adolfo Morais, Deputy Minister of Science, Universities, and Innovation, in the institutional closing ceremony on May 19 stands out.
Likewise, Javier Aizpurua, Scientific Director of BasQ, spoke at the opening plenary session on Monday alongside Thierry Botter, Executive Director of QuIC – European Quantum Industry Consortium, and Nerea Martiartu, Director of Lantik, in a forum that brought together leading representatives of the European quantum ecosystem.
Beyond institutional representation, BasQ also had a shared booth with the Bizkaia Quantum Advanced Industries (BiQain) strategy, promoted by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia as an integral part of BasQ. This collaboration reinforces the industrial dimension of the Basque quantum ecosystem, connecting the development of quantum technologies with the region’s industrial and business capabilities.
The shared exhibition space also served as a platform to raise the profile of various companies and startups from the Basque ecosystem, including Multiverse Computing, LKS Next, Global Data Quantum, and Qubiz Team. In a small auditorium set up within the BasQ–BiQain booth itself, the participating companies presented their projects, solutions, and areas of focus to a specialized international audience over the course of the two-day event.
Visit to the Donostia-San Sebastián Quantum Mile
As part of the parallel activities of Q-Expo, today, May 20, the side event “Quantum Readiness for Business: Bridging the Market Gap and Discovering San Sebastián’s Quantum Mile” will take place. This initiative will allow international representatives to experience firsthand the Basque Country’s quantum ecosystem and the scientific and technological capabilities concentrated in the so-called Donostia-San Sebastián Quantum Mile.
Participants will be able to choose between two distinct itineraries—one institutional in nature and the other focused on the business sector—designed to offer direct access to some of the key initiatives, infrastructures, and companies driving the Basque quantum strategy.
One of the main highlights of the tour will be a visit to two internationally renowned facilities located in the Basque Country: the IBM System Two quantum computer and the nanoGUNE quantum hardware laboratories, where cutting-edge research on quantum devices is being conducted in collaboration with the company Quantum Motion.
