In light of the fact that this year we are celebrating the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (UN), Kutxa Fundazioa and DIPC present the talks “Kuantikaz blai! - ¡Empápate de Cuántica!” at Tabakalera.

Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón will deliver his talk "Manotazos en una habitación oscura. La llegada de la computación cuántica".

More than forty years have passed since Deutsch and Feynmann wondered whether it would be possible to invent a type of computation that would take advantage of the quantum properties of matter. In all this time quantum computing has become an ever closer promise, fraught with both hopes and threats. If realized to its full potential, it will be a paradigm shift in many areas of science and technology. But will this promise ever be realized? We are not sure. Quantum computing is still a dark room in which we are fumbling around trying to find the light switch. When the light comes on, we'd better be prepared.

About the speaker

Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón, graduate in Theology and PhD in Mathematics, is Full Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Universidad de La Rioja (Spain). His research focuses on the area of Computational Algebra, he has worked on the field of homology of monomial ideals and its applications. He stands out in science communications, especially in the popularization of mathematics. He is the founder of the group of scientific monologuists The Big Van Theory, scriptwriter and presenter of the Youtube channel Derivando, presenter of the program “Órbita Laika” (La2, RTVE) and writer of several popular science books.
