Miguel Arocena

Miguel Arocena is General Manager at the Basque Foundation for Science IKERBASQUE.

He began his professional journey in 1992 as a professor in the Department of Graphic Expression and Engineering Projects at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). In 1997, he transitioned into the private sector, where over more than a decade, he held various management and executive positions in engineering, foundry, and machining companies in the automotive sector. In 2009, he designed and launched the Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL). After 14 years at BCBL, in 2023, he took on the responsibility of leading Ikerbasque.

He holds a Doctorate in Industrial Engineering from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), an MBA from the University of Deusto, and a Specialization in Technology Valorization and Transfer Management from ESADE.
