BasQ researchers and Jay Gambetta Co-Author Scientific Publication Marking Milestone in Quantum Research
September 10, 2025In a world-first, researchers from BasQ, CERN, UAM–CSIC, the Wigner Research Centre for Physics, and IBM have used a 144-qubit quantum computer to watch, in real time, how the “strings” that hold particles together move, stretch, and even snap apart.

This breakthrough, co-authored by IBM Fellow Jay Gambetta, tackles a decades-old challenge in particle physics: understanding why quarks — the building blocks of matter — can never be seen alone.
The BasQ researcher played a key role in developing new error-correction techniques that made these ultra-precise experiments possible. The results could revolutionize how scientists study the forces that create matter and mark a major step forward for quantum computing.
