Date:
11 November, 2025
Hour:
19:00

As part of the New Paths of Science program, Maria Navarro Gastiasoro, researcher at DIPC, will bring us closer to physics beyond classical laws and show us the omnipresence of quantum materials in our society. After her talk entitled ‘Lege klasikoetatik harago, material kuantikoak gure gizartean’, the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts.
The talk will be in Basque (translation service not available).
Free entrance until full capacity is reached.
Notice: The recording of the conference will be available as a podcast after a few days in Donostia Kultura Irratia.
About the speaker
Maria Navarro Gastiasoro. After graduating in Physics from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), in 2016 she earned a Master's degree and a PhD in Physics from the University of Copenhagen. She continued studying and developing new theoretical techniques for quantum materials at the Center for Quantum Materials at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, USA) (2017-2019) and at CNR-Sapienza University (Rome, Italy) (2020-2022) with a Marie Curie Fellowship from the European Commission. In 2023, she returned to the Basque Country to establish her research team at DIPC as a Ramón y Cajal Fellow. She works with international and local collaborators on theoretical models of quantum materials such as superconductivity in polar systems, correlative phases of transition metals, and the flexo-photovoltaic effect. She is also active in science communication activities, participating annually in the Emakumeak Zientzian event (in schools, on the radio, and in the session "Women Scientists Yesterday and Today 2025"), and this year she was one of the speakers of the Cinema and Science series organized by the Basque Film Archive, DIPC, and the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
