Javier Aizpurua Represents BasQ at Brussels Round-Table Following Building for Quantum Screening
December 11, 2025Javier Aizpurua, Scientific Director of BasQ – Basque Quantum, participated in a distinguished round-table discussion following the screening of the documentary Building for Quantum at CIVA Brussels.
The event brought together leading voices from science, architecture, and the arts to explore the emerging landscape of quantum technologies.
Building for Quantum presents an unprecedented look at the development of the BasQ quantum computing facility in San Sebastián, the first large-scale infrastructure of its kind in Europe. Through a combination of architectural storytelling and scientific insight, the film reveals how quantum research is shaping new forms of space, design, and technological imagination.
Following the screening, Aizpurua joined filmmakers, curators, and architects to reflect on the implications of building spaces for quantum research and on the broader societal meaning of quantum technologies. He emphasized that BasQ’s mission extends beyond consolidating advanced research capabilities: it seeks to position the Basque Country as a central hub for European quantum innovation, fostering collaboration across disciplines and institutions.
The event in Brussels highlighted how scientific infrastructures such as BasQ are increasingly becoming cultural and architectural landmarks, symbolizing a technological future in which quantum science plays a key role.
